Lake City Florist plans Valentines festivities

Lake City Florist, 11742 15th Ave. NE, will celebrate Valentines Day, Feb. 14, with entertainment by keyboard player Kevin Benedict of Civic Light Opera and balloon artist Mark Cross of Pioneer Balloons, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entertainment will take place in front of the shop, which is in the Atrium Square retail complex. ³It should be a hoot!² says Patty Feagin, co-owner of Lake City Florist. Vigilantes to hold Sweetheart Dinner/Dance, Feb. 17

The Lake City Western Vigilantes will host its 48th annual Sweetheart Dinner and Country Dance on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Lake City Community Center, 12531 28th Ave. NE.

The event includes the popular Chuckwagon Beef Bar-B-Que, ³with all the trimmings.² Dinner will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dancing will begin at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Vigilantes Youth Activity Program. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $5.75 for kids, 10 and under.

The Vigilantes and the Vigilante Sidekicks (wives and female friends of the all-male Vigilantes) are a group of volunteers best known for their lively, fun-spirited performances in parades throughout western Washington each year, including Lake City¹s annual Pioneer Days Parade in August. But the Vigilantes are more than that. They raise money throughout the year to donate to needy youth programs throughout the state. For more info, call Skeeter at 425-776-3714.

Buy a daffodil, help fight cancer

The public is invited to join the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer as the group kicks off its annual Daffodil Days fundraising campaign. Carol Ganje of Lake City is one of several volunteers who will be selling the daffodils to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The package options available are as follows: $10 Gift of Hope ‹ your vase of daffodils will be delivered to a cancer patient in a local hospital, hospice or nursing home; $10 Individual Purchase ‹ You will receive a vase and 10 freshly cut daffodils to brighten your day; $6 for 10 freshly cut daffodils without a vase.

All orders and payments must be received by Feb. 23. Make checks payable to ACS (American Cancer Society). Daffodils will be delivered by March 13.

Art contest winner named

Meuy Seng Saelee, a fourth grader, won the City¹s 2001 Neighbor Appreciation Day art contest with a pen-and-ink and watercolor painting. Her work is featured on free thank you cards which read ³Thank you, neighbor!² inside.

Runners up from North Seattle include: Xue ³Lucy² Li from Wedgwood Elementary, Lorna Manago, Velma Miller, and Kai Richardson from Eckstein Middle School, and Rebecca Morse and Violet Shuster from Greenwood Elementary School.
